A chromosome is a very long DNA molecule, tightly packed with histone proteins. The entire stretch of DNA is a double helix: there are two strands and each strand is written in four genetic letters A, T, G, and C.
These four letters form 64 three-letter words, each word is termed a codon. 61 codons depict 20 amino acids (i.e. more than one codon could be present for one amino acid) while three are nonsense. We know that genes code for proteins: a gene is a recipe of a particular protein.
On the chromosomal DNA, some segments contain protein recipes and such segments are called genes. One chromosome may contain many genes.
