Cepheid variable starts have property.Their pulsation period and luminosity is connected by a relation..So they can be used as standard candle to measure distance to stars..
Explanation:
Type 1 a supernova can also used as standard candle to measure distances to galaxies where telescopes can not resolve individual stars...As light gets dimmer in the relation inverse square law, both Cepheid variable and Type 1 A supernova can be used as standard candle to measure distances. Type ! A supernova occurs in binary Star system and they are reliable as standard candle.
