How do cells turn food into energy?

Most living cells derive energy from chemical bonds in food molecules.

Explanation:

Cells use energy to generate and maintain the biological order that keeps them alive. This energy comes from the food we eat .

Digestion of food results in the breakdown of different components of food into simpler monomers / subunits. Proteins are broken into amino acids, polysaccharides into simple sugars and fats into fatty acids and glycerol.
These are absorbed by the individual cells and used as building blocks, for energy and storage respectively.

However glucose (sugar ) breakdown dominates energy production in most animal cells.
