Well, look at the energy involved in a change of state....

And thus "vaporization/boiling" is "ENDOTHERMIC", and "condensation" is "EXOTHERMIC"...and this may be rationalized in that the act of boiling requires that STRONG liquid-liquid bonds be broken.

On the other hand, the transition solid to liquid should be "ENDOTHERMIC" according to the energy transfer..as should liquid to gas...
