How do producers and consumers relate to trophic levels?

Producers are those organisms that make their food using sunlight while consumers eat the producers.

Producers are found in the first trophic level and the consumers in the next levels above. The levels appear as a pyramid when you begin to look at the numbers.

The producers are the base of the pyramid. Without them no other life would exist.
The next level has the primary consumers and the third level have the secondary consumers.

Most ecosystems can not support more than three levels. A VERY few can support four.
