From the $1^{s t}$ $1^(st)$ eqn., we have, $x=6-y........(1)$

Sub.ing this in the $2^(nd)$ eqn., we get, $6(6-y)=29-8y,$ i.e., $36-6y=29-8y,$ or, $36-29=6y-8y.$
$:.7=-2y,$ giving, $y=-7/2.$

Now from $(1)$ , we get, $x=6+7/2=19/2.$

Hence, the soln. is $x=19/2, y=-7/2.$
