Let's just plug $x = 1$ $x=1$ and $y = 4$ $y=4$ into these equations. For the first equation, we get

$4 = 3 (1) - 2 \Rightarrow 4 = 1 \Rightarrow 4 \neq 1$ $4=3(1)-2=>4=1=>4!=1$

Since $4$ $4$ is obviously not equal to $1$ $1$ , $(1, 4)$ $(1,4)$ is not a solution to this equation. What about our second equation?

$y = - x$ $y=-x$

Let's plug in our values. We get

$4 = - 1 \Rightarrow 4 \neq - 1$ $4=-1=>4!=-1$
