The system will have a distinct solution because the lines represented by the two equations have different slopes.
When two lines have different slopes, they are going to meet at some point. The coordinates of the point of intersection would represent the solution to the given system of equations. If the two lines have same slope, that would mean the lines are parallel and wound never meet. Hence there would be no solution.
