= (x^2/2) arctan x - 1/2 int \ x^2/(x^2 + 1) \ dx

= (x^2/2) arctan x - 1/2 int \ (x^2+1-1)/(x^2 + 1) \ dx

= (x^2/2) arctan x - 1/2 int \ 1 -1/(x^2 + 1) \ dx

= (x^2/2) arctan x - 1/2 (x - arctan(x)) + C
