Given:

#A = lw#

To isolate w divide both sides by #l# giving

#A divide l = lw divide l#

#A/l = l/l w#

But #l/l=1 " and " 1 times w=w#

So we have

#A/l=w#

Normal practice would be to have what you are looking for (dependant variable) to be on the left

#w=A/l#
