How do you solve the equation 2x + y = 12x+y=1?

In general, it is not meaningful to ask to "solve" a single equation like this. You could ask to solve this equation for the value of yy given some specified value of xx; or you could ask to re-express it in the form y= ...." or x=...#

You could write the "solution" as an infinite set:
{ (x,1-2x) AAxepsilon RR}
but I doubt that's what you were hoping for.
