How do you use the Pythagorean Theorem to determine if the three numbers could be the measures of the sides of a right triangle: 3, 7, √50?

Well...

Pythagorean Theorem is that

For any right-angled triangle...

`a^2+b^2=c^2`

Where

`a` is base

`b` is perpendicular(I'm not sure if the name is correct)

`c` is hypotenuse.. the largest of them all

In this question.. the largest number is ofcourse `sqrt50` as `7^2=49` and `49<50`

So.. if those are right for a triangle... this should not be weird...

`3^2+7^2=sqrt50^2`

`9+49=50`

`58!=50`

So the triangle can't be made :(
