Due to the toxic chemicals damaging air sacs
Explanation:
The toxic chemicals induced into the alveoli create a repercussion affect which results in the damage and degradation of the alveoli and the wall surrounding it. The toxic chemicals permanently damage the air sacs which obtain air, resulting in less air being held by the lungs.
Therefore the two main points:
- Damage of the air sacs, less air is held
- Damage of the thin layers / walls of alveoli
(Both of the above are due to harmful toxins)
