Glandular fever ( infectious mononucleosis ) is an infection caused by the Epstein - Barr virus.

Explanation:

Symptoms are generally worst about a week after they first appear and most symptoms resolve within 3 weeks.

The incubation period for glandular fever is usually relatively lengthy ( approx 4 - 6 weeks ) . The first signs and symptoms of the infection may not appear until 4 to 8 weeks after exposure to the virus.

Onset is often gradual , though it can be abrupt . The main symptoms may be preceded by 1 - 2 weeks of fatigue , feeling unwell and body aches.

Most of the symptoms disappear after 2 - 4 weeks , although the fatigue can last for several weeks or months. It may cause the person to feel low or dispirited.
