It is not a matter of how many smooth muscles as they are found in large sheets.
Smooth muscle is a nonstriated tissue which forms around other tissues in almost every organ system.
In all systems, smooth muscle in blood vessels regulates blood pressure and flow.
Smooth Muscle Characteristics:
1. lacks striations
2. walls of hollow visceral organs and blood vessels
3. involuntary control
4. contractions are slow & sustained
Smooth muscle: note there are no striations.
Note that there is no sarcomeres and you can't see the sliding filaments. It is more like a "tugging" movement.
