There are six basic chemical reactions. All of the million possible reactions that take place are basically classified under one of each of the following.

SYNTHESIS
A+BAB
N2+3H22NH3

DECOMPOSITION
ABA+B
2KClO32KCl+3O2

SINGLE DISPLACEMENT
AB+CAC+B
2HCl+MgMgCl2+H2

DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT
AB+CDAD+CB
NaNO3+KClNaCl+KNO3

NEUTRALIZATION
HA+BOHBA+HOH
Acid + Base Salt + Water

COMBUSTION
CH+O2CO2+H2O
HydroCarbon + Oxygen #->Carbon Dioxide + Water

I hope this was helpful.
