Well you start with a secondary alcohol, and oxidize this to the ketone....

Explanation:

"Oxidation half equation:"Oxidation half equation:

H_3C-stackrel(0)CH(OH)CH_3 rarr H_3C-stackrel(II^+)C(=O)CH_3+2H^+ +2e^(-)H3C0CH(OH)CH3H3CII+C(=O)CH3+2H++2e

And typically an oxidant, say permanganate, or dichromate, is REDUCED....i.e. the metal oxide is the oxidizing agent.

""^(VI^+)Cr_2O_7^(2-)+14H^+ +6e^(-) rarr underbrace(2Cr^(3+))_"green"+7H_2O(l)

And we add three of the former to one of the latter.

3H_3Cstackrel(0)CH(OH)CH_3 +Cr_2O_7^(2-)+8H^+
rarr 3H_3Cstackrel(II^+)C(=O)CH_3+ 2Cr^(3+)+7H_2O(l)

Is this balanced with respect to mass and charge?
