I think you may have misrepresented the reaction....

Explanation:

In welding applications (commonly between lengths of railway tracks) to make a continuous track the thermite reaction is used to produce molten iron from ferric oxide and aluminium powder:

Fe_2O_3(s) + 2Al(s) stackrel(Delta)rarr2Fe(l) + Al_2O_3(s)
