The genetic information within the homologous chromosomes are interchanged by crossing over led to change of genes.

- The genes cross during pachytene of meiotic cell division,
- The genes are divided into each daughter cell. The daughter cells will receive the different enetic material.
- It there fore will create a genetic variation, when they link with another make haploid.
