Explanation:

Left atrium receives blood from the lungs through 4 pulmonary veins. This blood is oxygenated. This oxygenated blood then from the left atrium enters the left ventricle through a valve (mitral valve or bicuspid valve).

When the left ventricle contracts, blood is pushed into the aorta.
