In case there is an error in the question, lets look at g(x)=x2x+17

Explanation:

For g(x)=x2x+17

It may be helpful to think of it this way:

g(x)=(x)2(x)+17

To find g(2), we will replace all of the x's with 2s.

g(2)=(2)2(2)+17

We get:

g(2)=(2)2(2)+17

=42+17
=2+17
=19

That is: g(2)=19

Note: I am convinced that the use of parentheses in the first step is a very good habit to develop.
