Width is $4 \frac{2}{3}$ $4 2/3$ inches

It is the fractions which makes this question sound harder than it is.

If the question had read..

The area is $12$ $12$ squ inches and the length is $6$ $6$ inches, we would know easily that the width is $2$ $2$ inches.

$A = l \times w \to w = \frac{A}{l} = \frac{12}{6} = 2$ $A = l xx w " "rarr w = A/l = 12/6 = 2$

The method is exactly the same with the fractions.
The problem is about dividing with fractions.

$w = \frac{A}{l} = 30 \frac{1}{3} \div 6 \frac{1}{2}$ $w = A/l = 30 1/3 div 6 1/2$

$w = \frac{91}{3} \div \frac{13}{2}$ $w = 91/3 div 13/2$

$w = \frac{91}{3} \times \frac{2}{13}$ $w = 91/3 xx2/13$

$w = cancel91^7/3 xx2/cancel13$

$w = 14/3$

$w= 4 2/3$ inches
