Let $w$ $w$ be the width and $10 + w$ $10 + w$ be the length

Then

$w (10 + w) = 24$ $w(10 + w) = 24$

$w^{2} + 10 w - 24 = 0$ $w^2 + 10w - 24 = 0$

$(w + 12) (w - 2) = 0$ $(w + 12)(w - 2) = 0$

$w = 2 or - 12$ $w = 2 or -12$

Since $w > 0$ $w> 0$ , the width measures $2$ $2$ units and the length $12$ $12$ .
