Of course LiCl is a non-molecular material consisting of an infinite array of close packed Li^+ ions, interpenetrated by an infinite array of close packed Cl^- ions (or vice versa). We can't speak of lithium chloride molecules, but we can speak of lithium chloride formula units, and we certainly can speak of Li^+ and Cl^- ions. Capisce?
