Percent yield is determined by dividing the mass of the actual yield by the mass of the theoretical yield, then multiplying the result times 100.
Percent yield = (mass of actual yield)/(mass of theoretical yield) x 100
For example, the theoretical yield of a reaction is determined to be 8.5g. After the experiment, the actual yield is 6.2g.
Percent yield = 6.2g/8.5g x 100 = 73%
