What are the barriers to responding to climate change?
1 Answer
Investments made or being made and Profits...
Explanation:
Let me start with an engineering rule of thumb I learned almost 25 years ago: "An engineering investment (a suspension bridge, a dam, a thermal power plant) should stay active at least 40 or more years." Conventional (nonrenewable) electric production plants are operated to answer the demand and they have been operated for more than 10 years or 20 years or so. Noone wants to retire them young because of the fact that profit is a good thing to have.
We know nonrenewables (reserves, technologies we utilize, etc.) for a long time. There are granting agents supporting such investments in any country. The private factories, businesmen, etc. are keen on operating such facilities to make Money.
They also ignore global climate change because they do not think their children or grandchildren.
All these factors combined cause an ignorance and fast response. It is 20 degrees Celcius in here (Çanakkale, Turkey) (at 3 pm) on March 30, 2017. I am saying it is extremely hot for a March day.
