Lipids are small hydrophobic molecules which usually form structures like vesicles or membranes in the aqueous environment of the cell.

Explanation:

The lipid classification scheme is chemically based on the hydrophobic and hydrophilic elements that compose a lipid.

Fatty acids , eg Eicosanoids.

Glycerolipids , eg di galactosyl di acyl glycerol.

Glycero phospholipid , eg phosphatidyl choline.

Sphingolipids , eg sphingomyelins

Sterol lipids , eg bile acids.

Prenol lipids, eg carotenoids

Saccharolipids, eg glucosamine.

Polypeptides, eg erythromycin ( derivative ) .

These are further divided into several subclasses.
