Explanation:
This is done by shooting alpha particles at a thin gold foil and scientists found out that a little number of the alpha particles are deflected more than 90 degrees upon hitting the foil but most pass right through the foil. They then came out with the hypothesis that there are positively charged particles in the nucleus and these particles are separated by large spaces.
