Looking at an ostrich one thing that strikes you is those long muscular legs. These legs evolved for running away from prey at high speeds (up to 40 mph). These powerful legs are also used for kicking at prey. Their feathery plumage protects them on cold nights in the desert by trapping air. They also have thick eyebrows for keeping sand out during dust storms.
