The p-value or probability is the area under the Chi-square distribution usually to the right of the test statistic (one-tailed) . But, it could sometimes be a two-tailed test.

Explanation:

If the p-value lies completely within the critical area (for example #alpha=0.05#), the event is considered to be very unusual . If you were testing a hypothesis under these conditions, you would reject the null hypothesis.
