Just to retire this question..."sulfur" is a "Group 16 element"...."oxygen, sulfur, selenium, tellurium, polonium.."...it have SIX valence electrons, and the element can be reduced to form "sulfide ion" S^(2-)....

Sulfur is a common oxidant, and its chemistry mirrors that of oxygen...... Nevertheless, sulfur CAN be oxidized to form SO_2 and SO_3, the anhydrides of "sulfurous" and "sulfuric acids..."
