When a higher temperature system is in diathemic contact with a lower temperature system, heat from the higher temperature system begins to flow through the diathemic wall to the lower temperature system.
As this process continues, the hotter system gets colder while colder system gets hotter.
The process continues till both the systems reach the same temperature, that's when it is said that the systems have attained thermal equilibrium with each other and the heat transfer processes stops altogether.
