$96 div 12 xx 4$ is very different from $96 div (12xx4)$

Look at the red showing which is done first in each case

$color(red)(96 div 12) xx 4$ is very different from $96 div color(red)((12xx4))$

= $color(red)(8) xx 4" and "=96 div color(red)(48)$

= $32" and " 2$

Note that without the brackets, there is a $div 12$ and a $xx4$

Even done as $96 xx4 div 12$ it $2$ would give the same answer, $32$
