A benign tumor is a rather poor choice of wording. All tumors have uncontrolled growth. Usually cells have their own boundaries and will not grow beyond them.
Benign tumors are quieter and less likely to spread. But they do cause problems.
A benign tutor found in the brain causes real risks since it grows slowly but still grows. There is no room in the brain case and this will cause pressure and possible brain damage.
