ANOVA is a statistical procedure used to test the degree to which two or more groups vary or differ in an experiment.
Explanation:
A common example would be the average life expectancy. You can calculate one for the general population, or for males and females separately. The ANOVA can tell you if the differences in the means of the sexes from the population mean are possibly due to the gender.
