It is a rule which provides the probability of a cause given the effect.
P(B_i /A) = P (B_i )P(A/B_i )/ sum P (B_i )P(A/B_i ) , where B_i is the ith cause and A is the effect.

Explanation:

uuu B_i = S, B_i nnn B_j = phi , B_i, i = 1, 2, ... k are the mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive reasons under which the effect A takes place.
