The formula mass of Ca(NO3)2 is 164.09gmol1.

Explanation:

So how did we get that mass?

Well, in each formula units of calcium nitrate there is one atom of calcium, 2 atoms of nitrogen, and 6 atoms of oxygen. If I take the atomic masses (from where?) and sum them appropriately:

Formula mass of calcium nitrate

=(40.1+2×14.01+6×15.999)gmol1

=??gmol1. Sum them up and waddya get?

Do you have to remember these numbers?
