The cork cambium is a lateral meristematic layer in a plant.
Meristems are regions of cells capable of division and growth.
Because of their ability to divide,this layer of cells called cork cambium produces waterproof cork from the outside.If you would cross section the stem of a tree than you would see it clearly.The cork cambium together with the cork and the living phloem(moves sugar up and down) forms the bark of a tree.
