The linear rate of mass movement, usually in mass-meters/second. By itself it implies nothing about volume or pressure.
Explanation:
This is a point measurement which will usually vary throughout a system. Averages of the flow velocity are needed to calculate a volumetric flow rate. It is very useful in describing characteristic distributions of flow in laminar and turbulent flow conditions.
