What is the cell theory and who discovered it?

Cell theory is a general hypothesis which was given by German botanist Schieden and British zoologist Schwann and was further extended by R.Virchour.
Cell theory states that ---
- *Cell is the fundamental unit of structure of life * - Anything less than a cell cannot ensure living state .
- Cell is the fundamental unit of function - Unicellular organisms perform all there activities within one cell .
- A cell is made up of protoplasm surrounded by membrane i.e. protoplast.
- Cell lineage theory *Omnis cellula e cellula * (Greek) means a new cell arises from existing cells .
