Explanation:
cellulose consists of beta glucose bonded by 1-4 glycosidic bond. But every other beta glucose has to be inverted so that condensation reaction can easily take place. When the beta glucose from a pair is inverted the hydroxyl group sticks out. In the chains of beta glucoses. The slightly negative oxygen and slightly positive hydrogen are attracted and it forms hydrogen bond which act as cross links which makes the structure of cellulose very strong and rigid.
