Mitochondria is known as a power house of the cell because it produces energy. It carries out aerobic respiration to produce ATP by breaking carbohydrate.
Mitochondria are also the sites where TCA cycle (tri-carboxyllic acid cycle) takes place and there is production of bi-products like glutarate, glyco-oxalic acid during this cycle.
