The International Space Station is just as it sounds, a space station.
The ISS is the most expensive thing ever built in the world and houses astronauts from countries all around the Earth. The ISS was launched in 1998 which began the 100 billion dollar endeavor of setting this space station up.
Chunks of the space station were launched and assembled in outer space, a lengthy and expansive task. Today, the space station is equipped with a laser extension boom for the robot arm which allows scientists to interact with space, without having to physically go outside. The ISS runs on solar power as it orbits the Earth, dropping off and picking up astronauts along its course.
