The oblique asymptote is $y = x$

$f(x) = (x^2+x-2)/(x+1) = (x(x+1)-2)/(x+1) = x - 2/(x+1)$

As $x->+-oo$ , $-2/(x+1) -> 0$ .

So $f(x)$ is asymptotic to the line $y = x$ .
