It provides and stores energy

Explanation:

Adenosine triphosphate or ATP for short is used for producing and storing energy. The three phosphates of a molecule of ATP has a very high energy level and can be detached to provide energy. When a phosphate is removed from a molecule of ATP, lots of energy is produces and the molecule loses a phosphate and the new name of the molecule is called adenosine diphosphate(ADP). Energy can be added to ADP to transform it back into ATP.
