I've just changed your question. Basically, you'd want to eat a producer, so you would get the most energy out of it.

Explanation:

A producer's energy comes straight from the sun, with no jumps and no energy lost along the way. By eating the producer directly, you can get the most energy stored in a food as possible as it is all concentrated.
If you were to eat a cow for example, you would get less energy out of the cow than the grass it has eaten, as it has lost less energy along the way via excretion, warming itself, growing, breathing and metabolism -so you would have to eat more cows to get the same amount of energy from the grass as you need.

I hope this helps.
