"Continuous" have no gaps. "Discrete" have distinct values separated by "no value" regions.

Continuous may be something like height, which may vary in a population "continuously", with no specific limitations. "Discrete" could be choices or outcomes of a test - it either "is" or "is not" - there are not gradations or "continuity" between the choices.
