Who lost the French & Indian War?
1 Answer
The French and ultimately the Indians lost. The French lost Quebec and Canada to the British. This ended the French support of the Indians which had limited western advancement of the 13 Colonies.
Explanation:
The French and Indian War started ahead of the 7 years War in Europe but was closely related to it. The British used the Seven Years War to improve its world wide colonial holdings at the expense of the French and Spanish.
The prior to the Seven Years War the French tried to limit the expansion of the British Colonies by supporting the Indians in the Ohio valley. British and their Indian Allies (mainly the Iroquois Confederacy) made little progress early in the War but later by capturing the major settlements and fortifications in Canada the British ended the French adventures in the new world.
The British had difficulty with both the Indians and the colonists after the Seven Years War. Taxation to support the troops to fight the Indians eventually led to the American revolution. America had a long fight with Indians thereafter. After the War of 1812 Britain abandoned support for Indians.
