Why is our galaxy a spiral?

No one really knows but it is the most common form of galaxy.
Explanation:
The only theory on the "why" is the very basic principle of objects in motion about a point. At the center of our galaxy is a super giant black hole. Its gravity extends out at least to the edge of our galaxy. There is a plane which extends from the equator of the black hole out in every direction. All object captured in the gravity of the black hold tend to move along than plane which would account for its flat spiral look, although that is only a theory.
