Dear friends,
We write to share a bit more about the announcement on our blog post: that we have decided to focus 100% on the Socratic app going forward. Our mission to make learning easier remains our guiding light, and we believe focusing solely on the app is the best way to push this mission forward.
In order for us to do this, we will be retiring the website to a read-only version. We believe that the website can continue to serve students for many years into the future with all of the amazing contributions you have already made. This change means that the website won’t be accepting new accounts as of today and won’t be accepting new contributions as of August 15, 2018 . In short, your valuable work here is done ❤.
Read on for details about what to expect as of August 15, 2018.
What stays
- All question-and-answer pages
- A preserved version of your profile page, badges, and links to all your answers and edits accessible through your profile URL (see below)
- A way for anyone to search the website for subjects, topics, answers, or profiles
What changes
- No new contributions. You won’t be able to add new answers, new questions, or make changes to existing answers. If you have any questions about your contributions after August 15, you can contact us at hello@socratic.org.
- No profile edits. You won’t be able to change your username, profile bio, or email address. If you need to change these or have any other questions about your profile information after August 15, you can contact us at hello@socratic.org.
- No more logins or accounts. In an effort to make the site’s content as accessible as possible to future readers, we’re removing user accounts and logins. This means that as of August 15, there will be no way to log into an account and no accounts to log into.
- No access to 1:1 messages or scratchpads. These won’t be accessible once your account is closed.
- No profile map or activity counter. These live elements will not be on your preserved profile. Take a screenshot of your map before August 15 if you want to keep it!
As of today, the website will no longer accept new accounts in order to begin the transition.
What you need to do
Find the URL of your profile by visiting socratic.org/users/me while you’re logged in. Bookmark the page or save the URL so you can easily visit it after August 15. Your profile will still be available at socratic.org/users/[YOUR-USERNAME] and you will also be able to find it by searching for your username on the website.
Click “edit profile” on your profile to find the email address associated with your account . Save the email address on file somewhere safe—this is how we’ll know it is really you if you get in contact with us in the future.
